BASSETERRE St. Kitts, December 10th 2012 — This past weekend was nothing short of splendid and even magical for the generously gifted 208 members of The Learning & Empowerment through the Arts Program (LEAP) and their colossal audiences, as they presented their third annual musical theatre production. Dubbed ‘Once Upon A Time’ in line with its enchanting fairytale theme, the show incorporated the best in dance, drama and song, coupled with vivid visuals that lustrously lit up the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium (ECCB) on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th December, 2012.
LEAP, now quickly known for great quality, sold out concerts, had their tickets disappear rapidly and in record time, well in advance of both showcases. Over 1,000 patrons, glad to have secured their admittance into the high-in-demand event, filled the venue to its maximum capacity, and poured into the auditorium eager for a fantastic time. They were surely not disappointed.
‘Once Upon A Time’, with an original script written by its Director, Genieve Hanley, took viewers and listeners through a thrilling tale of a dreamy child’s story book fantasy becoming oh, too real! In it, a precious princess is kidnapped by a villainous dragon. Then five brave royal men, commissioned with her rescue, embarked on a treacherous journey through fire and ice and over rivers and mountains, all with the hopes of being the one to set her free and win her hand in marriage.
Laced with comedy, and hallmarked by impressive and meaningful dance numbers which highlighted various parts of the characters’ quests, the Bank was often in a continuous uproar, as the audience flooded the entire venue with outbursts of laughter and resounding rounds applause. “I’ve never experienced this kind of show here in St. Kitts”, “The show was amazing!” and “I truly enjoyed myself”, attendees enthusiastically commented, as the rave reviews rolled in.
