Construction begins for this year’s Sugar Mill

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Warner Park Football Stadium is currently being transformed into a cultural complex as the Sugar Mill is now under construction.

The Sugar Mill, as it will be called, is expected to be completed before Saturday (Dec. 15) when the festivities are expected to officially open.

The Carnival Committee has already announced that all Carnival activities are expected to take place at that venue.

Some three years ago, the Committee declared that Carnival celebrations had outgrown the Carnival Village and a decision was taken to move the festivities into Warner Park.

In 2011 the Sugar Mill was situated at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium but has since been relocated to the Football Stadium as it did in 2010.

The reason for this move is due to the fact that St. Kitts is scheduled to host the West Indies Women’s Cricket Team in matches against a touring South African Team in early 2013, as well as a number of regional games featuring the Leeward Islands Cricket Team.

The first event to be held at the Sugar Mill for this year is the official opening of National Carnival on Saturday (Dec. 15), which will be followed by the Calypso Senior Monarch Semi-Finals slated for the next day starting at 4:00 p.m.
