Convicted rapist faces 45 years behind bars

~~Adz:Right~~ St. Thomas, USVI – AN Anna’s Fancy man could be facing significant time behind bars after he was found guilty for several offences relating to the kidnap and rape of his former girlfriend.

Although convicted last Monday, September 22, Darryl Beaupierre, 27, will have to remain in custody until his sentencing hearing in November when V.I. Superior Court Judge Michael Dunston is expected to render his sentencing.

According to the victim’s heart-wrenching testimony, on Sept. 4, 2007 Beaupierre raped and physically assaulted her. She testified that she had to escape his apartment where he held her captive after she had gone there to braid his hair. She reportedly sustained a stab wound during the ordeal.

Despite an extensive ‘rap sheet’ which includes forgery, assault, house breaking and kidnapping, Beaupierre was only convicted for punching a woman and was sentenced to six months in jail and one year of probation. He was also ordered to attend anger management classes.

This time he could not avoid his fate and was found guilty of first-degree rape, four counts of first-degree assault, first-degree unlawful sexual contact, false imprisonment, attempted unlawful sexual contact and two counts of using a dangerous weapon during the commission of a first-degree assault.

The rape and assault convictions could land Beaupierre in prison for the next 45 years of his life.
