Basseterre, St Kitts, December  13th, 2012  -- As part of its Christmas Celebrations for 2012, the Jamaican Kittitian (JamKit) Association, the Association of Jamaicans and friends of Jamaicans in St Kitts & Nevis, joined the congregation of the Charlestown Methodist Church on Sunday, 9 December in worship and celebration on the Second Sunday of Advent.

This service is part of the Annual Christmas Celebrations of the Association which, in this year of Jamaica’s 50th Anniversary of Political Independence, has held a number of celebratory events on Nevis as well as St Kitts.

The second purple candle for advent, the candle of peace, was lit during the Candle Liturgy in which the congregation was told “We light it (candle) knowing that peace can be elusive and in some parts of the world, it is almost completely absent.

Yet in this season of Advent, we affirm that God is never absent from us.  God is always preparing something new.  And even where there is war and discord, whether between countries, within families, or within our own hearts, God is present, gently leading us to new possibilities of wholeness.”  The candle of hope was lit on the First Sunday of Advent on 2 December 2012.

The sermon was presented by Rev Vanessa Webb who exhorted persons to listen to the guidance from God always and to adopt the stance of sharing with their less fortunate brothers and sisters, especially at this time of year.

Prior to the Church Service, JamKit Members had an Early Christmas Social on the evening of Saturday, 8 December at the Red Cross Building, Charlestown where there was much competition among members, especially in dominoes, but also in card games along with partaking generously of mannish water, curried goat, chicken and other Jamaican fare washed down with libations of the spiritual kind in some instances.

NB:  Jamaica celebrated her 50th Anniversary of Political Independence on 6 August 2012, however there have been all year long celebratory events in Jamaica and in various parts of the world where Jamaicans are now residents.
