Constituency 3 Walk Through “put off”; Condor to speak with constituents this evening

Ashley Allers

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THIS publication has been advised that the Walk Through scheduled by members of the St. Christopher Three Constituency for tomorrow (Dec. 15) has been “put off”, pending the outcome of a meeting being organised by that area’s Parliamentary Representative for this evening (Dec. 14).

Local businessman and resident of Constituency Number Three, Ashley Allers told SKNVibes he received information that Deputy Prime Minister Condor would be holding a constituency meeting at the Bronte Welsh Primary School this evening, which would provide an opportunity for dialogue.

The meeting was confirmed by Deputy Prime Minister Condor.

Allers had spoken to the media – on behalf of members of the constituency – concerning Condor’s lack of communication with them concerning his issues with Prime Minister Dr. Denzil L. Douglas.

He also expressed the constituents’ feeling that Condor – by virtue of his actions – appeared to be siding with the Opposition in Parliament.

In a physical expression of their dissatisfaction, the constituents launched a petition calling for the removal of Condor as their Parliamentary Representative and were organising a “walk-through” demonstration through the Village area.

However, according to Allers, because Condor is hosting a constituency meeting this evening the Walk Through has been cancelled and, following the meeting, an appropriate course of action would be taken.

“We have learnt that the Deputy has decided to have a meeting this evening at the Bronte Welsh School in West Farm and we will be looking for opportunities to dialogue and to ask questions. And so the members of the constituency and, in particular in the Village area, the larger part of the constituency, we have said that let us wait in all fairness to him to hear what he would say to us this evening and then, depending on what is being said at that meeting, then we would proceed accordingly. We would go back to the drawing board and decide whether or not we need to have a walk through, and have it properly organised.”

Meanwhile, although the Walk Through has been placed on the backburner, Allers informed that the petition is gaining momentum. And as at 10:30 this morning it had attracted nigh 600 signatures.

The petition – addressed to “Comrade Leader Rt. Honourable Denzel L. Douglas” – reads, “We the undersign members of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party West Basseterre Constituency Branch wish to lodge this petition with the office of the comrade leader and the national executive as a formal complaint against Hon. Sam Terrance Condor, representative of St. Christopher 3 with regard to the following counts:
    • That the comrade Representative has continuously made statements in the public domain that undermine the stability of the party that he was elected to be part of.
    • That the comrade representative has not to date informed persons, that he was elected to represent, the reasons for pursuing his present course of action.
    • That the comrade representative has made public pronouncements that he is desirous of seeing the government, of which he is part, and the party leader under whom he serves removed. This is in direct opposition to the wishes of the members of the Branch.”
