BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SOME of the calypsonians from the Grand Masters Proud Sounds Calypso Tent have released their second song for the semi-final stage of the National Calypso Monarch Competition.
In a special calypso tent held at 17 Degrees on Thursday (Dec.13), some of the semi-finalists performed their second song for the competition.
Former calypso monarch King Pungwa was the first of the semi-finalists to perform. He sang his popular tune ‘Rat Race’ and followed up with the second one called ‘Be proud of who you Are’ in which he makes a plea to all black people to embrace the color of their skin and being proud of who they are.
Lord Kut was next with ‘De master Plan’ and also a ‘Tribute to King Barky’ which highlights the contributions made to the art in St. Kitts by the now deceased King Barky.
Veteran calypsonian Big Lice did the tune ‘Ask the PM’ and a new one dubbed ‘Country before Party’, which calls on politicians to make St. Kitts and Nevis their priority.
I-Soursop also performed but he only sang one song - ‘Proud Black Women’. He however indicated that he would not sing his second composition because he wished to save on his voice.
Other calypsonians who performed at the special tent were Zennet, Lala, Singing Solution and Abba Lively.
The Semi-finals of the National Carnival Calypso Competition is scheduled to take place tomorrow (Dec. 16) at Warner Park.
