BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IN celebration of a very productive work year, the management of Royal Utilities St. Kitts will demonstrate its appreciation for its loyal employees and business associates with a sumptuous Barbeque at its Frigate Bay location on Friday (Dec 21).

a company located in Frigate Bay and driven by the motto ‘We all work together’, and this coming Friday (Dec. 21), Barbecue would be held and employees and business colleagues would mingle in celebration of a productive work year.

Last Thursday morning (Dec. 12), eight employees of the company were recognised in the company’s second annual Employee Achievement Awards Programme.

Plaques for the Royal Utilities Employee Performance Awards were presented to Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator Jeffrey Harris, Desalination Plant Operator Elton Evans, Desalination Plant Supervisor Calvin Tross, Power Plant Operator Franklyn Mitcham and Power Plant Supervisor Uriel James.

And Tareq Maynard, Jeffrey Harris, Simeon Hutton, Franklyn Mitcham and Uriel James were presented certificates of appreciation in recognition of their 10-year service with the company.

The General Manager of Royal Utilities St. Kitts, Gerry Moise, provided this media house with some background information on the annual Awards Programme, which he said was initiated in 2010.

“I started this programme two years ago when I saw one of my guys working hard out in the hot sun and he was still in a good mood…happy and hard working. I realised that with such good guys working with me, I had to show some appreciation. Too often a business is so focused on the bottom line that they miss what is really important”.

In his explanation of how employees are selected for the annual awards, Moise said, “Each year we do an employee annual evaluation. We look at 10 different aspects related to the individual’s performance and rate this.”

He also informed that “annual pay increases are commensurate with performance”.

Asked about the rationale behind the introduction of such a programme, the General Manager explained that it is geared towards “giving back to the hard working men of St. Kitts.”

He also spoke to the good working environment of the company.

“We spend more time at work than we do at home. We too are like a family. No one likes to live in a confusion atmosphere. We all get on real good and everyone appreciates that. We look out for each other and help each other. It not just about business, it’s also about the people.”

Moise also informed that those individuals who were recognised for their commendable service with the company have all demonstrated an attitude of eagerness to continue along that vein.

“I must admit that it does warm my heart to see a man beaming with pride being rewarded and recognised for his accomplishments”, he remarked.
