BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE reigning Power Soca Monarch, Take Over, is calling on all Soca lovers to attend the competition on Friday (Dec. 21) at the Sugar Mill in Warner Park and ‘Paint De Sky’.

Take Over, whose real name is Orin Roberts, made waves last year when he defeated a number of ‘big guns’ to cart off the Soca Monarch title with a song called ‘Insane’.

This year, however, he intends to retain his title with a hard-hitting song called ‘Paint De Sky’..

According to Take Over, “The song is about being able to color the atmosphere with rags and flags or anything that can wave, therefore, making the sky colorful.”

Explaining to this media house the origin of the song, Take Over said, “It came about with a discussion with me and my management team. We were playing around with various ideas and wondering how we could have painted the sky, because the objective is to get the people involved and I guess in talking we came up with the idea.

“The intention is for us to win! I would like to believe that the song should win on its own and I am content in my ability and hopeful that I will win.”

Take Over indicated that, so far, the feedback has been positive.

“The feedback so far has been very good and most people I met said that it was worth the wait, even though the song was recently released. I really hoped that I could have released it earlier, because it was recorded and prepared for some time now but we had encountered some technical difficulties.”

Addressing his readiness for the competition, Take Over expressed, “I am in my final stages of preparations and I think that for an event of that magnitude, you can never say that you are fully prepared because there is always some something that you can improve upon. So now we are just in our final stages to ensure that we are more than ready for Friday night.”

He said that the biggest challenge facing him as an artiste is time, which he has to find for practice and also in getting himself organised for the competition.

“Beyond that, I think I have a very capable management group that helps with some of the work load,” he added.

Take Over said that the lyrics for the song were written by him and added that “I just want to wish all my competitors the best and calling on everybody to come out and support the Soca Monarch Competition and be prepared to paint the sky.”

Last week he released a song called ‘Don’t Need Much’, which he noted would be the song he intends to sing at the Groovy Soca segment of the competition.
