Joint Branch meeting re-endorses leadership of Prime Minister Douglas and parliamentary representatives

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, December 17th 2012 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party supporters from Central Basseterre and East Basseterre were told Monday night that “everything in my power politically and constitutionally to ensure that the trust and the mandate that had been given to the Party following the 2010 General Elections are not taken away and given to another group for selfish purposes.”

     

    Party supporters also endorsed the leadership of the Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas as well as the decisions of the National Executive of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party and the Cabinet of the Government.

     

    “We need to ensure that the Labour Party Government that the comrades, the nationals and residents had voted for was not passed over to a group of persons who the people of St. Kitts and Nevis did not elect in government,” Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas told a packed Joint Branch Meeting of supporters from St. Christopher 1 (East Basseterre) and St. Christopher 2 (Central Basseterre) at Masses House.

     

    Prime Minister Douglas, who is also the National Political Leader of the governing St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party  lead his team of candidates to victory winning six of the eight seats on St. Kitts with sixty percent of the popular vote on St. Kitts. The Labour Party holds six of the 11 seats in the Federal Parliament.

     

    The other five are shared between the Nevis Reformation Party, who sole parliamentary representative sits on the Government side as Cabinet minister. The four seats are shared two each between the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) and the People’s Action Movement (PAM).

     

    “I have the support of the party of whom I continue to have and the support of the Cabinet that I lead,” Dr. Douglas told party supporters.

     

    Also speaking at the Joint Branch Meeting were Parliamentary Representative for East Basseterre, the Hon. Dr. Earl Asim Martin and Parliamentary Representative for Central Basseterre, the Hon. Marcella Liburd.

     

    A motion from the floor endorsing the leadership of the Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas as well as the decisions of the National Executive of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party and the Cabinet of the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis in relation to the decisions to increase the number of senators in the St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly, the Land for Debt Swap arrangement and the 2013 Budget was submitted and unanimously approved.
