Ashley explains reason for absence from Condor’s meeting

Ashley Allers

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER claiming that he would have used his Parliamentary Representative’s most-recent meeting as an opportunity for dialogue, Constituency Number Three resident Ashley Allers has explained his reason for not being in attendance of the December 14 event.

Deputy Prime Minister and Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher Three held a meeting with his constituents at the Bronte Welsh Primary School on Friday (Dec. 14), which he used to set the record straight on specific issues that were recently raised.

These issues included the suggestion that he had relinquished his allegiance to the St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party and was pledging same to the opposition party.

For this reason, a “Walk Through” – planned for December 15 in support of a call for Condor to be removed as that Constituency’s Parliamentary Representative – was cancelled and Allers indicated that Condor’s meeting would be used by himself and other dissatisfied constituents as a means of discourse in clarifying a number of pressing issues.

Allers however never showed for the meeting and - in speaking with this publication – explained that his absence was deliberate as he did not want his presence to be perceived that he “wanted to create confusion”.

“I absented myself…I didn’t want them to say that I came there to cause confusion; because at the beginning of this whole thing it wasn’t me who was planning a march. It was the people from the first meeting who, when the meeting ended who were asking, ‘What is the next move...what should we do next?

“In fact, the people wanted to have dialogue with him and in fact, what he has done was go down to West Farm – the smallest part of the constituency. In West Basseterre, the Village area is the bigger part of the constituency…And so he chose to have a meeting down there which was very coward.”

In addition to calling Condor’s move to have the meeting in West Farm one of cowardice, Allers noted that the Constituency Representative made that decision because he is aware that his support in the Village area is “very, very poor”.

Although he did not attend the meeting, Allers informed SKNVibes that persons who had previously expressed their displeasure with their Constituency Representative were in attendance at the meeting and they either expressed their concerns or attempted to do so.
