                                                   Southeast Peninsula Road Improvement

Basseterre, St. Kitts - Christophe Harbour Development Company, developers of Christophe Harbour, the luxury resort community that is currently being prepared on the Southeast Peninsula of St. Kitts, is spearheading a major road enhancement project that will soon improve the traffic and safety conditions, leading from the base of Timothy Hill in Frigate Bay to the end of the Kennedy Simmonds Highway.

The road enhancement project is being pursued in two phases and was launched in early September. It involves the repair and clean up of the six mile road that provides primary access to some of the island’s beaches and real estate assets that are designated for residential and tourism development.

According to the Chief Operations Officer, (COO), of Christophe Harbour Development Company, Mr. LeGrand Elebash, the project is being undertaken in collaboration with the Public Works Department of the Federal Government.

He said that the initiative is designed to make the highway safer and more pleasant for all drivers, nationals of St. Kitts & Nevis and visitors who frequent the area to enjoy the spectacular views, restaurants and beaches.

With the recent introduction of the Sea Bridge, transporting many vehicles between the islands of St. Kitts & Nevis, there has been a significant increase in traffic on the Southeast Peninsula, and this new effort to repair the road-way will allow safer travel, particularly at night time, said Elebash.

Over the past three weeks, workers from Christophe Harbour Development Company have been systematically clearing the excess debris and overgrown vegetation, creating more space and visibility for drivers, especially around the many corners of the highway. They have also cleared culverts and drains that were clogged with built-up debris.

New specialized equipment was imported by Christophe Harbour Development Company, to assist the Public Works Department in the cutting of the road to properly fix the pot holes.

Recognizing the practice of cattle and other animals to flock to the water-filled pot-holes for drinking, these repairs should help reduce the risk to motorists.

It is anticipated that the main phase of the project will last another three to four weeks.

The Christophe Harbour Chief Executive said that this effort is part of an overall program to be good stewards for the Southeast Peninsula and a model corporate citizen for the federation.

He said the company will soon launch a national beautification program recognizing its shared responsibility to create an enhanced environment and maintain the natural beauty of the island.

Elebash said that as a stakeholder in the local economy, Christophe Harbour is committed to playing its part in positioning St. Kitts as a high-end tourism market.

Christophe Harbour Development Company presently operates in St. Kitts from its offices at Port Zante, Basseterre, tel. 1 (869)466 4557.
