BASSETERRE St. Kitts, December 20th, 2012 - The Immaculate Conception Catholic School just held a very successful fundraising event in the form of a Family Fun Day. This event was held to raise funds to procure additional technological items to be used in the classroom. The school plans several fundraising events annually to assist in closing the gap in our operational costs as well as advancing various aspects of the educational experience for our students.
When the committee met to plan an event for the first term, we reached out to Gary Periera of Reggae Beach Bar & Grill. Mr. Periera, who has a Grandchild at ICCS, told us that he feels “Blessed to have ICCS” and was more then happy to assist us in planning a fundraiser.
Through a series of meetings, it was decided that ICCS would hold their first annual Family Fun Day on December 9, 2012 from 11 – 5pm at Reggae Beach Bar at Cockelshell Beach. The goal was to raise $10,000 to put toward technological advances on the campus.
In order to meet this goal the committee set out to solicit donations from numerous organizations and individuals to help eliminate overhead costs going into this event. We were met with an overwhelmingly positive response from all that were asked to help. The committee decided to try to sell 200 tickets for the buffet lunch. All 200 tickets were sold in advance of the day!
Sunday, December 9 turned out to be a picture perfect day at Cockelshell Beach. The skies were bright blue with picturesque clouds. Shortly after 11, the parking lot slowly started filling with families ready to enjoy a fun afternoon at the beach while supporting a great cause!
The crowds kept rolling in throughout the day. The beach, and surrounding areas filled up with friends of ICCS. There was a perfect mix of mouth-watering food, ice cold drinks, water sports, raffles, laughter and all around good fun to be had by all who attended.
The end result was that ICCS met and surpassed their initial goal of $10,000 making close to $16,000 to put toward enhancing the technological equipment available for use within the classrooms at ICCS.
While the St. Kitts community is small, this event is proof of what can happen when everyone works together for the benefit of our children. The most valuable lesson that was learned is that while the initial goal was raising funds for the school, we had an even more exciting outcome and that was that we raised ‘friends’ through the support of our sponsors and donors!
Sue Vineyard said, “When we recognize that a better word for fundraising is “friend raising,” we open limitless doors to creativity in support of our causes.” Truer words cannot be found. ICCS would like to extend our sincerest gratitude and appreciation to all of our amazing ‘friends’ (sponsors and donors) as well as all of those people that came out to support us at Family Fun Day!
