BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - MISS National Bank, 18-year-old Zinga Imo, captured the coveted National Carnival Queen title held last evening (Dec. 27) at Sugar Mill in Warner Park.

Imo convincingly won the Best Swimwear, Best Evening Wear and Best Interview segments and was also carted off the Chairman's Award.

The First Runner-up position went to Miss LIME Irvinsia Warner, who won the Best National Pride and Best Talent segments while Miss St. Kitts Music Festival Mikahlia Lawrence was adjudged Second Runner-up.

The other contestants were Miss Carib Brewery Precious Mills, who captured the Miss Photogenic, Miss Amity and Miss Popular Carnival Queen awards, and Miss Development Bank Shalloyda Hewlett.

A fairly large crowd attended the pageant which started some 40 minutes after the 8:00 p.m. scheduled time.

The pageant was held under a Carnival theme, which reflected a circus, and after a thrilling opening number featuring the contestants the event was on its way.

After each segment many among the audience were able to determine the winners, with Imo performing the best in both Swimsuit and Evening Wear, choosing styles that perfectly complimented her petite body.

And Warner convincingly won her appearance in National Pride, which reflected the Pelican Bird, and her talent which was a calypso to the tune of Singing Sandra's 'Die with my dignity', in which her lyrics spoke to men having sexual relations with school girls.

Her performance not only brought much laughter to the audience, but also her message which seemed to have been well-received.

And by the time the Evening Wear appearance was over, many individuals exclaimed that it was tied between Imo and Warner.

However, Warner fumbled during her Interview while Imo spoke fluently and profoundly about her platform which reflected the importance of Education.

The 2011/2012 National Carnival Queen, Kalia Huggins, took her final walk just before the coronation of the new queen who was crowned by the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas.

Following the crowning of the new queen, there was a mixed feedback about the results, especially when no announcement was made of the points of those who had placed in the show.

The Sugar Mas celebrations continue this evening with the Senior Calypso Monarch Competition at the Sugar Mill.
