BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - TRAGEDY struck last evening (Oct. 3) when a house fire that occurred in Malone Avenue took the life of a young girl.

According to reports reaching SKNVibes, the fire was spotted shortly after 6 p.m. and within half an hour, Fire and Rescue arrived on scene.

Reports on the scene indicated that by that time the house was completely engulfed in flames and a large crowd had already assembled outside the alley leading to the inferno.

The firemen managed to extinguish the blaze shortly thereafter, but not before misfortune occurred.

Upon entering the gutted home, firemen discovered the burnt body of 29-year-old Isis Liburd, still in her bed. Dr. Reginald O’Loughlin, who arrived on-scene shortly afterwards, pronounced the teen dead. The girl lived with her mother, father and two older female siblings in the three-bedroom wooden house.

At least two members of the family who were obviously present when the fire occurred were taken to the Joseph N. France Hospital for treatment, although the extent and nature of their injuries is unknown at this time.

No comments were forthcoming from the assembled police and fire workers on the scene; only that the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
