    ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, December 31, 2012 - Cabinet has approved the appointment of six members to the Non-Profit Organisation Registration Board, in accordance with Section 3(2) of the Non-Profit Organisations (NPO) Act, 2012.
     
    The members are Chairman Mr. Kenneth Hodge, Deputy Chairman Ms. Kamika Forbes, Mr. Curnal Fahie, Ms. Claudia Hodge and ex-officio members Registrar Mrs. Harriett Anderson and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Social Development Mrs. Petrona Davies.
     
    The NPO Registration Board will receive and determine applications for registration by non-profit organisations; register non-profit organisations; receive and investigate complaints arising out of any matter covered in the Non-Profit Organisations Act, 2012 and receive and review financial statements and reports from organisations.
     
    Additionally, the board will facilitate the development of the non-profit sector in the Virgin Islands and promote an understanding of the role of NPOs in the Territory.
     
    The Non-Profit Organisations Act, 2012 will mandate for the registration, supervision and monitoring of Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs) in the Territory and will take effect on Tuesday, January 1, 2013.
     
    In a meeting with the board today, Honourable Skelton thanked the members for their willingness to serve and emphasised that the Act has the potential to create new opportunities for NPOs operating in the Territory.
     
    NPOs in existence at the commencement of this Act should apply for a certificate of registration within 90 days of the Act coming into force.
     
    Application forms can be obtained from the Ministry of Health and Social Development or the Government’s Help Desk which are located in the West Atrium of the Central Administration Complex. Requests for forms can also be emailed to
    npoboard@gov.vg.

     

    The Ministry of Health and Social Development will launch a registration drive on January 15 to assist NPOs in becoming compliant with the new Act.
