Cinnamon spices New Year’s Eve with music video premier

By: Precious Mills, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ENDING the last day of 2012 in a grand style, which includes a music video premier,  in  anticipation of an exciting New Year,  is the positive outlook for well-known St. Kitts/Nevis’ artiste  Diedra ‘Cinnamon’ Delsol.

The 26-year-old Dancehall/Soca entertainer is expected to release a music video tonight (Dec. 31) for the tune called ‘Mash Up’.

Interested persons are asked to note that due to circumstances beyond  the organisers’ control, ZIZ TV will not be airing their regular programming of 869 Live tonight (Dec. 31).

However, tonight's scheduled show will still be aired online on www.irepskntv.com at 8:00 p.m.

Delsol publicly apologises to her fans, supporters and well-wishers, on behalf of herself and the 869 Live family, for the inconvenience caused.

The song was officially released in the first week of December 2012 on various radio stations, including Freedom FM, WINNFM and Daflava Radio with DJ Choice One out of Atlanta.

Cinnamon has been singing from a very young age in the choir of the Pentecostal Church of God, but it was not until age 20 that she started to look at music and singing in a different light.

She is currently being managed by the Antigua-based Viva Caribbean Media Group.

More New Year’s Eve news about Cinnamon is that today she released her newest song called ‘Chopper’ to various radio stations. The song is done on the Overheat Riddim and was written and produced by Wetty Beatz of St. Vincent.

Wetty Beatz produced the Muddy Jab Riddim with hits such as ‘Jab Signature’ by Tallpree and ‘Gyal Alone’ by Lavaman.

Speaking about her new song, Cinnamon said, “My latest song is called ‘Mash Up’, which was released in December for the Carnival season. It’s not the typical ‘wilders’ that you hear from bands...it’s more of a fusion of Soca and Techno/Dance. ‘Mash Up’ is really about having a good time with no restrictions, no limitations; just enjoying Carnival and Soca the true Caribbean way”, she stated.

This reporter questioned if Cinnamon has switched over to Soca completely.

Her response was: “I will always love Dancehall and I love my fans and deejays that have supported me over the years. But for now, I am just enjoying the Soca music and the feedback has been very encouraging. Who knows what can happen two years from now?”

The scene for ‘Mash Up’ were shot over a two-day period - Nov. 21 and Dec. 9.

According to Cinnamon, “The video shoot was incredible. It was directed and will be edited by Sherwin Jupiter of Irep Studios, and hopefully will be out before the Carnival finishes.

“This time around we are planning to do things a little different and release on 869 Live. I must say thank you to our sponsors Fusion Mas Camp, Big Banana Tours and Discovery Beach Bar which is located on Friars Bay. Their contributions helped make imagination into reality”.

Asked how she would compare Soca to other music genres, she explained: “I absolutely love Soca. To me, it’s more liberating, more fun. At times with Dancehall it seemed too serious, but with Soca I am able to be more of who I am; a free-spirited fun person.”

She was asked what she likes about the music industry.

“For me, I personally love the joy that music brings to me. When I am stressed I listen to music to calm my spirit. Without music I would probably be a different person, so I am glad that I am able to be in the industry and have my music have an impact on someone the way another artiste’s music affects me. Also, in this industry, I love the way that I am able to explore the different cultures through the art of music. It’s just a beautiful feeling knowing that even though we are all different, music still connects us as one”, she replied.

Cinnamon is currently putting in a lot of work to further boost her career and she opened up to this media house about herself.

“I have been busy making connections during this month and all the late nights of networking are paying off. I will be releasing a new song in a matter of days for Carnival. It’s called ‘Chopper Song’ and it was written and produced by one of St. Vincent's young and upcoming producer, Wetty Beatz.

“He has already worked with top artistes in Grenada such as Lavaman and Tallpree on the Muddy Jam Riddim, and also worked with Road March winner for St. Vincent Carnival 2012, Fya Empress, on a song called ‘True Vincy’. I am very excited about the new song and there is another one I did. This one was written by myself and should be out in time for Trinidad Carnival, once all goes well. There are other producers from Grenada, St. Vincent and the UK that I am currently in contact with about new projects. So everyone just keep posted for details to my Facebook fan page www.facebook.com/cinnamon869.”

Commenting on whether or not she intentionally did not partake in this year’s Soca Monarch Competition, Cinnamon said: “Wow, Soca Monarch! I honestly wanted to do it this year, but personal reasons along with work and the fact that my manager recently had to relocate for business purposes prevented me from entering this year. I really had a blast last year and I know persons are disappointed that I am not entering because, even though deadlines were up, I was still being approached by many asking if I will be competing. I will definitely enter next year, God spare life and health.”

Listeners in St. Kitts and Nevis can tune in to their favourite local radio stations to hear her release of ‘Chopper’, while those in Brooklyn, New York can hear it tonight by tuning in to Wild 106.3 FM or log on to http://wild96fm.com and www.jwondersounds.com with DJ J Wonder.

Additionally, on Wednesday night from 9:00 p.m. to midnight, persons in Miami can log onto
www.largeradio.com Island Express with The Stanman to hear the release.

Special thanks to Delly Ranks (The Kore Band), Kadeen, Kareema, Desiree, LL, Yanero ,Nickhail, Jah fire, Simba, KT (Sugar Band), the Tyson family and everybody who had a part to play in making this ‘Mash Up’ video possible.
