Nevis Island Administration Press and Public Relat
Junior Minister of Education and Library Services, the Hon Livingston Herbert
    Charlestown Nevis (May 9, 2005)
As the 2004/2005 academic year draws to a close, Nevis' Junior Minister with responsibility for Education and Library Services, the Hon Mr. Livingston Herbert has expressed best wishes to the students in their upcoming examinations.
The examinations will cater for the following stages; promotional examination of students in both primary and secondary schools, test of standard examinations for all grade 6 pupils for entrance into the high schools, Caribbean Secondary Examination Certificate (CSEC) and the Caribbean Advance Proficiency Examination (CAPE).

Herbert who was at the time conveying the wishes via NTV Channel 8, told the students, "I therefore take this opportunity to wish all the candidates clarity of thought, good memory recall and speed of expression during this period of examination."

He called upon parents, guardians and members of the community to have a role to play whether collectively or individually within the student's life.  He said, "While the ultimate onus rests with our children, as they are the ones who will be writing the examinations, our role must be to encourage and support them as they prepare themselves for these examinations."

"As parents and guardians, there are a number of things that we can do," added Herbert. "I believe that if we have been negligent, the time is now for us to spend more quality time with our children.  We can assist with the development of a study schedule and ensure that it is adhered to by our active support."

"We may not be knowledgeable of the subjects that our children are pursuing, but certainly, we can be their companion as they prepare themselves especially during the nights.  Much can be gained by studying in groups."

The Education Minister admonished parents and guardians to encourage their children to associate themselves with their peers who have consistently displayed positive and serious attitude towards their studies, and reminded the parents that their children are their future and that the investment they make today will determine the dividends that they will earn tomorrow.

"May God in his infinite wisdom grant us the courage to provide the encouragement and support necessary to nurture the development of our children. Success to all," ended Minister Herbert.
