BASSETERRE, St. Kitts –THE Fabulous Fitness Centre (FFC), situated in the Inner Circle Building, St. Paul’s, has “blazed a trail for many to change their bodies and change their lives” and is a rapidly growing venue for the persons interested in maintaining a physically fit body.

The four-floored facility houses an aerobic room, cardiovascular section, abdominals station, weight training station, a pit for heavy-weight lifting and boasts over 50 state-of-the-art pieces of gym equipment.

The floors have a maximum capacity of 32 individuals along with the eight highly trained physical instructors and personal trainers who offer “a different comfort to the usual gym rooms”.

Members are assessed for age, gender, weight, height, skin fold test and girth measurement and the information is stored on the centre’s database upon registration.

This information provides the opportunity to track one’s progress in weight loss or body building. Registrants are additionally checked for major surgeries, broken bones and major accidents and falls.

The centre has two medical practitioners and a chiropractic consultant in order to ensure that the facility is in line with health and medical standards as well as to provide health guidance to patrons.

Speaking to SKNVibes, the FFC Public Relations Officer, Meshach Alford, said the centre’s aim is to promote a lifestyle of health and fitness in the rural communities, being fully aware of the abundance of non-communicable diseases in the area. He added that the centre maintains balance in the development of the “total man” in a health conscious atmosphere.

“We are hoping to cater for Sandy Point through to Saddlers and, of course, our doors are open to accommodate others.

If you look at it, just as the church is developing the spiritual man and the school is developing the academic man, we are making our contribution to develop the physical man, thus the enhancement of the total man. A lot of persons may be spiritually and academically fit, but we find that they may not be physically fit. So, when they leave here, they should feel like a new person,” Alford stated.

~~Adz:Left~~ Sharon Douglas, Manager of the FFC, stated that the primary aim is to change the mindset of persons who may perceive the FFC to be a place just to lift heavy weights and focus on body building. Rather, he stressed the need to maintain balance in the centre where anyone, old or young, could feel relaxed and comfortable while working at his/her own pace.

“People need to recognise the benefits of living a healthy active lifestyle, which should cause them, according to statistics, to live a longer, more enjoyable life. One thing I must say is that the camaraderie, the togetherness that the centre has granted has developed family atmosphere and very close relationships, which has certainly closed the gap between the young and old.”

Douglas shared his vision for the fitness centre in becoming a “full-fledged facility to include a spa, sauna and sports therapy and geriatrics centres” to increase the awareness of persons in relation to living a healthy life.
