BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, and his Deputy the Hon. Sam Condor were involved in a heated discussion last evening (Jan. 9) at a meeting held in the St. Johnston’s Community Centre.

Hundreds of people turned up for the meeting and among them were media practitioners, who were not allowed in the building because it was a Branch Meeting and not open to the general public.

However, so large was the gathering that the Community Centre was filled to capacity and many people could have been seen on the outside peeping through windows and doorways.

The multitude of supporters who gathered to hear what their party’s two highest officials had to say were divided in their views, with many claiming that they would like to see Condor removed as their Parliamentary Representative, while others called on their fellow constituents to follow Condor’s footsteps and pointed out faults they saw in the Prime Minister’s leadership.

The meeting also brought out a rift amongst members of one particular family that has very ties to Constituency Number Three.

In an interview with SKNVibes, one individual who goes by the moniker ‘Constituent’ voiced his displeasure at Condor being his representative.

We don’t have a representative in Constituency Three. The people of the constituency have been representing themselves for the past 23 years and I think that Sam Condor is an absolute waste of time and we don’t want him in this constituency anymore…plain and simple straight forward.”

When asked why they kept voting for him since there was displeasure, Constituent said, “If we don’t vote for him it is a vote for the other party, so we actually did not vote for him. We voted for Labour and he was the Labour representative there. The vote is always for Labour, we never voted for individual it is always Labour.”

Asked why they never considered a change in candidate for the area, Constituent responded, “We have considered  a change but, of course, it was turned down and this is the time now that everybody is seeing clearly what type of individual he is, and he is not a representative for us.

“We are going to get a new representative for the next election because we don’t have one. We represent ourselves!”

Another resident of the area stated that “Sam is a notorious liar and has to go”.

However they were those who were in support of Condor.

“People we need to open we eyes and wake up. They carry a whole embassy Dubai without Sam knowledge and up to now we ain’t see one photo form it or even hearing anything about it,” an angry supporter shouted.

Another one said, “Condor should be left alone because Douggie has done worse than him.”

While the supporters were shouting at each other, both Ministers traded blows with each other on issues ranging from the Land-for-Debt swap, the Dubai Consulate, the Increase in Senators Bill and the distribution of Land in Constituency Three.

Shortly before the meeting ended, Dr. Douglas apologised to Condor and embraced him in a ‘brotherly’ hug, but the olive branch was not reciprocated.

The meeting is expected to be followed by a special Labour Party Convention that is scheduled to take place on Sunday (Jan. 13).
