A pleasant good afternoon to everyone,

ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, January 15th, 2013  - Let me first begin by welcoming everyone here this afternoon, especially our friends from the US Department of Agriculture and Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services. We appreciate you taking the time to be here.

This afternoon we will create history in these “greater” Virgin Islands when we sign the memorandum of understanding to formalize our commitment to the development of horse racing and to allow for effective movement of horses between our territories.

Horse racing has become one of the distinguishing features of our territories’ culture and it remains a central element of our identity.  This sport has always brought generations of family and friends together for competition, enjoyment and camaraderie.

Yesterday is an example of our close-knit relationship. Yesterday, we hosted the first leg of the Triple Crown Challenge at the Ellis Thomas Downs. This challenge is a collaborative effort between the BVI Horse Owners Association and the Horse Owners Association of St. Croix and St. Thomas to keep this vibrant sport alive.

No doubt, we continue to appreciate the longstanding friendship with our sister Territory — the US Virgin Islands — and will continue to seek opportunities that will enable us to forge stronger relationships.
