~~Adz:Right~~ BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE general public has been extended words of gratitude by the High Command of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force for its assistance in the fight against crime, more specifically the removal of almost 30 firearms from the streets of the Federation.

This comes on the heels of the most recent of firearm recovery, which, according to police, may not have been possible without the cooperation of the public.

“Police on Nevis responded to an area in Government Road after receiving some information and carried out a search on a vacant plot of land that led to the recovery of one .38 pistol and three rounds of .38 ammunition as well as one .22 round of ammunition. The firearm and ammunition were taken into custody but no one was arrested for the find.”

Including this find, the number of illegal firearms removed from the streets of the Federation stands at 29 for the year - an increase of eight in comparison to last year - and the number of rounds of ammunition removed stands at over 1,600.

“The High Command of The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force will like to publicly thank the general public for their invaluable information and cooperation that have led to the recovery of these 29 firearms and continues to solicit your input in our crime fighting initiatives.”

The police have informed that since the most recent find of a firearm, they have conducted other operations which have led to illegal substances and items being found and seized.

“Search warrants were also executed on the premises of Jayron Frazer and Dwayne Byron of Jessup’s Village on Saturday 4th October 2008 for illegal drugs, arms and ammunition. One .38 round of ammunition and a quantity of marijuana were found. Both occupants along with the drugs and the round of ammunition were taken into custody. Charges are being prepared against both individuals.”

Also, earlier this week, members of the security forces on St. Kitts “conducted routine stop and search operation in the Basseterre area and several individuals were stopped and searched for illegal drugs, arms and ammunition”. As a result, “two bags containing a quantity of marijuana were discovered in the surrounding area”, but no one was held answerable.
