BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – RAMONA PHILLIP and Akeem Whyte, jointly charged with building breaking and larceny, appeared yesterday (Jan. 15) before the Basseterre High Court and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Whyte is facing a third charge of receiving several items in connection with the first and second offences, to which he also pleaded not guilty.
According to the facts read in Court, the incident occurred on February 3, 2012 at TechSperts Store on Liverpool Row, Basseterre.
The accused are said to have stolen nine Blackberry cellular phones, eight Alcatel cellular phones, four Motorola cellular phones, one Xbox, two Samsung cameras, 16 Ipod Nanos and six flash drives, all to the value of EC$55,525.18.
On the other charge, which is also said to have occurred on February 3, 2012, Whyte allegedly received a camera, a Samsung cellular phone and an Xbox.
The two accused were unrepresented and will have their case heard sometime during the Assizes.
In a previous report, SKNVibes had learnt that on the morning of Friday, February 3, 2012, employees of TechSperts Store arrived at work and found the building broken into.
It was also learnt that the breakage might have occurred early in the morning.
Meanwhile, Dennis Jeffers also appeared at the High Court yesterday and not guilty to building breaking with intent; a crime he allegedly committed at Buckleys on April 23, 2012.
He was charged with breaking into Carib Breweries with intent to steal and his case was scheduled to begin today.
The prosecution team, which is led by the Acting Director of Public Prosecution Rhonda Nisbett-Browne, has a total of five witnesses to support their case while Jeffers is unrepresented.
