Promises to bring a new people oriented brand of politics and representation to Central Basseterre
Central Basseterre, St.Kitts, January 18th 2013:-“My presence in the political arena marks the beginning of a new era and a new people oriented brand of politics and representation in Central Basseterre.”
Attorney Jonel Powell made this declaration while addressing scores of party supporters at a recent Public Meeting in the Central Basseterre constituency at New Road.
Followinng the hugely successful meeting Powell was questioned about what the characteristics and tenents of this new brand of politics. Powell declared , “I intend to bring a brand of politics that is more inclusive and which is more people oriented. And when I say people I mean ALL constituents regardless of political affiliation. It is clear that the country and the people are tired of the tribalistic divisive politics that has become the norm in our country. The people want change and are clamoring for a more inclusive and unified approach of governance and representation.
This is a new era of unity and functional cooperation which means that my representation of central Basseterre will be all inclusive and will involve views and input from all. It is obvious that the divisive representation that has been seemingly practiced by the incumbent representative no longerappeals to the electorate and neither is it benefitting the electors and the constituency. I intend to change all that and bring a new more inclusive and impartial way of championing the cause of ALL my constituents instead of just those who support me and my party.”
Powell indicated that Central Basseterre deserves better representation and he is ready to provide it.
“I have the youth, intellect, commitment, resolve, motivation and passion necessary to provide the representation that Central Basseterre has been yearning and longing for. I will provide proper representation for 4 years at a time instead of just 3 months before an election. Central Basseterre deserves better,” Powell concluded
Jonel Powell is a former President of the UWI St.Kitts-Nevis Student Association in Barbados and is a young new exciting politician and current Deputy Chairman of the People’s Action Movement. The young Powell has been causing much ripples in the political waters since his entrance in the political arena upon his announcement of his interest in providing real representation for Central Basseterrewhere the Labour Party’s Hon Marcella Liburd is the current representative.
