BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE PRO Inspector Lyndon David said there is no truth to the allegation of members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) were today (Jan. 22) intimidating voters on Nevis.
According to David, the RSCNPF had received phone calls that statements were made on the local airwaves by a caller, alleging that voters of his district were being disenfranchised by the police.
“All citizens are afforded the right to vote and that right shall not be infringed,” David said.
The PRO declared that there was no truth to the allegation that “the police are intimidating citizens” and added that members of the Police Force are patrolling all areas of the island of Nevis in their capacity as peacekeepers.
“The peace and security of the Federation will be preserved. The police will maintain law and order and will arrest any person or persons contravening the law without exception,” the PRO warned.
Citizens of and residents on Nevis started queuing in front of polling stations very early this morning to cast their ballots to elect the party (either the Concerned Citizens Movement or the Nevis Reformation Party) of their choice to lead them into the next five years.
