Basseterre, St. Kitts – The Rotary Club of Liamuiga (RCL) is celebrating “A Decade of Service to Our Community.” The community-spirited group will celebrate its 10th Anniversary with activities that highlight the RCL’s commitment to community, empowerment and upliftment. Anniversary activities will kick off with a panel discussion on January 24 and run through June.
Among the activities planned are:

13 March 2013 - 10th Anniversary Peace Forum
30 March 2013 - 10th Anniversary Concert/Night of Entertainment
April 2013 - Easter Dance-A-Thon Competition
April 2013 - Etiquette Training Seminar
June 2013 - 10th Anniversary Soca Fête
RCL was founded on February 10, 2003 by 29 community-minded individuals. For almost 10 years now, RCL has sponsored numerous programmes for the nation’s youth and throughout the nation’s communities. These include local and regional primary school spelling bee competitions, a Computer Assisted Literacy Solutions (CALS) Training Programme for primary and high school aged children, primary and high school talent search competitions, a luncheon that honors residents of the Saddler’s Home for the Elderly, the Christmas Hamper Project and the Valentine’s Make-A-Wish Project. Many of RCL’s projects are longstanding and well known within the community.
Commemorative activities kick-off this week. First is a Joint Rotary Awareness Panel Discussion in collaboration with the Rotary Club of St. Kitts on Thursday January 24 at 7 p.m. The panel discussion will take place at the St. George’s Anglican Church Hall (Old Girls’ School).
Discussants will address the history of Rotary, its foundation and principles, the organization’s international and national activities and its projects. The panel discussion will be carried live on ZIZ and WINN FM radio stations.
Then on Saturday, January 26 at 3 p.m., RCL will host a charitable fun run/walk event, “Post-Christmas Fat Burn-A-Thon.” The run/walk will start and end at The Independence Square in Basseterre. Registration is EC $15.00 for persons 12 years and under and EC $30.00 dollars for persons over the age of 12 years. Persons can register at the event location.
