Caribbean Cinemas brings innovation to St. Kitts film experience

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts-THE grand opening of the Caribbean Cinemas Megaplex 7 at Buckley’s Site three weeks ago has brought a number of exciting innovations to the film-going public of the Federation, including the first-ever schedule texting service and opening dates on par with any international cinema.

Calling the Megaplex 7 a “tremendous investment here for the benefit of the people”, Director of Business Development Shervin White said his company was happy to provide modern experiences through initiatives like schedule texting.

“We joined forces with SKNVibes and bMobile because we thought it would be a great service for our customers. We also felt good that local businesses could take such initiative to partner with us and offer our schedule up in this way,” he said.

The idea of receiving movie schedules by text, which can be done by texting ‘mov’ or ‘movie’ to 7568 on a bMobile phone, is something that is new not only to St. Kitts, but to all of the Caribbean Cinemas throughout the region.

“To tell the truth this is the first time that Caribbean Cinemas has partnered in such a project. Some people may not have access to a computer at all times…and so it was not a hard idea for me to pitch to my bosses,” White said.   ~~Adz:Right~~

Additionally, White said that the theater has begun to provide customers with the much welcomed service of the biggest films opening the same day they do in the United States.

“When we started off turnout was a bit less than expected, but the past two weekends most of the movies were sold out, especially the new releases of Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Eagle Eye and The Family that Preys. We are going to continue getting more new movie releases over time,” he said.

Being on the cutting edge of the film industry has also helped the Megaplex 7 benefit the youth of St. Kitts-Nevis.
“I feel proud to see so many young people coming out, because the whole initiative of this theater was to get the young people off of the street and give them alternative entertainment they can turn to for enjoyment,” White said.

As time goes on, White said Caribbean Cinemas will continue to be a trendsetter and meet the needs of St. Kitts-Nevis with innovations like its children’s arcade, diverse food court and soon to begin construction “one-stop shopping” mall near the West Basseterre Bypass.
