    Over 140 migrants repatriated to Dominican Republic

     

    ~~Adz:Right~~ SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic - US Coast Guard Cutter personnel repatriated 146 illegal immigrants to La Romana, Dominican Republic, after they were discovered to be travelling illegally into Puerto Rico by sea on Wednesday October 8.

     

    According to Dominican Today News, “following an at-sea interdiction by Caribbean Border Interagency Group (CBIG), Coast Guard law enforcement personnel had detained 11 of the 157 migrants for attempting to enter illegally into US Territory on many occasions”.

     

    Carrying 120 men and 37 women, the 50-foot wooden boat was spotted 20 miles north of Isabela, Puerto Rico by a team of U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel on October 8 and the passengers were subsequently brought ashore for prosecution by the US Attorney in Puerto Rico.

     

    The US Government has in the past, repeatedly attempted to prohibit human smugglers and illegal Dominican Republic migrants attempting to enter the United States and its territories via sea.
