Divisional "B" Parade and Lecture

    BASSETERRE St.Kitts, January 24th 2013 - On Thursday 24th January, 2013 the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force Division “B” hosted a Divisional Parade through the community of Dieppe Bay.  The Parade Sergeant Major (PSM) was No. 176 Sgt Joseph Wyatt Station officer of the St. Pauls Police Station.
      
    The platoon commander was No. 97 Sgt Joseph Gerald Station Officer of the Old Road Police Station.  The Parade was inspected by the Division Commander for Division “B” Supt Andre Mitchell where officers were inspected for the tidiness on parade.  Supt Mitchell was escorted by No. 369 Sgt Edward Drew Station officer of the Sandy Point Police Station.
     
    Following the inspection the officers marched through the streets of Dieppe Bay to Gibbons Hill and back to the Dieppe Bay Police Station where the Division Commander took a salute along the street adjacent to the Dieppe Bay Primary School. The officers marched in quick and slow time and executed a number of riffle exercises on the march at the trail, port and changing arms to the delight of many villagers and school children who lined the street to view the parade. Members of the community congratulated Supt Mitchell for taking the iniative to conduct a Police Parade in the Village of Dieppe Bay.
     
    No. 133 Const Percy Daniel and No. 678 Const Bergan of the Dieppe Bay Police Station were adjudged best male turnout while No. 540 W/Const Kashina Burke of the Sandy Point Police Station and No. 780 W/Const Marcella Simon of the Old Road Police Station were adjudged best female turnout on parade. They earned themselves an extra rest day at their respective Police Station as an incentive for been tidy on parade.
     
    A Divisional Lecture at the Dieppe Bay Police Station conference room followed the parade. The lecture took the form a special awards ceremony to honor five (5) Police officers who would have completed twenty (20) to thirty (30) years of Police service in the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and have since retired or about to retire.
     
    The five (5) honorees were No. 127 Sgt James Tyson and No. 373 Const Kenville Richardson who will retire from the Police Force in February, 2013, No. 147 Const Olando Hughes who retired from the Police Force in August, 2012, No. 97 Sgt Gerald and No. 133 Const Percy Daniel who have already completed thirty (30) years service in the Police Force.
     
    The Ceremony was chaired by No. 324 Cpl Matthew McGuire and in attendance at the head table were the Commissioner of Police Dr. Celvin G. Walwyn, Assistant Commissioner of Police- Crime (ACP) Ian Queeley and the Divisional Commander “B” Supt Andre Mitchell. 
     
    Supt Mitchell gave welcome remarks to the officers and awardees in attendance and thanked everyone for the attendance. Special recognition was given to Const Marcella Simon and Special Const Gene Browne of the Old Road Police Station for their hard ward in decorating the conference room for the ceremony. Recognition was also given to the Police Welfare Association (PWA), initiated by the Chairman No. 450 Const Mark Handley by affording the retirees and soon to be retired Police officer awards in recognition for their sterling service to the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.
     
    ACP Ian Queeley gave brief remark and commended and thanked the officers for their contribution to the Police Force. He spoke about his interaction and working relationship with all the awardees during their time of service and had high praises for all of them.
     
    Commissioner of Police Dr. Walwyn paid special recognition to the five officers and thanked them for their dedicated service to the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.  Dr. Walwyn informed the retired and soon to retired officers that one of the initiatives that he has put in place since he became Commissioner is that every Police Officer who retires from the Police Force will be issued with a RETIRED POLICE OFFICER ID as a symbol of honor for their service to their country. The Commissioner also encourages the younger Police officers to aspire to be leaders of tomorrow and to elevate themselves by seeking higher learning while they are yet young. 
     
    The Police Welfare Association paid special recognition to the five awardees by donating plaque’s, gold watches and fruit baskest. The chairman Const Handley thanked the officers on behalf of the Welfare Association for their sterling contribution to the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.
     
    Sgt James Tyson joined the Police Force in February, 1981. On completion of his initial training he worked at the Basseterre Police Station and Cayon Police Station. In 1983 he was a part of a multi-regional peace keeping mission that flew to Grenada during the Grenada revolution.
     
    He later returned to St. Kitts and was transfer to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) where he worked for many years and was later promoted to the rank of Corporal.  In 1998 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was transfer to the Sandy Point Police Station. He then worked at the Tabernacle Police Station for several years and was later transfer to the Cayon Police Station.
     
    Sgt Tyson worked at the Court and Process Department District “A” and was later transfer to Basseterre Police Station as the Station Officer. Sgt Tyson was highly commended for the teachings he imparted to a number of officers who work with.
     
    Sgt Tyson accepted his awards and thanked almighty God for giving him life and good health throughout his Policing career. He reflected on his career and thanked Ex-Commissioner Robert Jeffers for his mentorship during his years at the CID. He thanked the officers who would have worked with him at the CID, Sandy Point, Tabernacle, Cayon and Basseterre Police Station. Sgt Tyson was very emotional and had to be consoled by his wife Gillian who was in attendance.
     
    Const Olando Hughes joined the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force in 1984.  He was a member of the St. Kitts Nevis Defence Force for six (6) years and a Police officer for twenty (28) years.  Const Hughes worked in several units and departments in his Police Force career. He was a member of Swat, SSU, Sandy Point, St. Pauls, Cayon, and Tabernacle Police Station before he retired in August 2012.
     
    Constable Kenville Richardson joined the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force in 1993. Following his initial training he worked at the Sandy Point Police Station, Immigration Department, Cayon Police Station and Sandy Point Police Station, his last attachment before he retires in February, 2013.
     
    Special recognition were paid to Sgt Gerald who have completed thirty (30) years and Const Daniel who have completed thirty two (32) years of service in the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.
     
    All the awardees spoke briefly and were very happy for the contribution they made to the security of St. Kitts and Nevis.
