Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 28th, 2013 (SKNIS): Creative youth in St. Kitts and Nevis are gearing up to make history by participating in the inaugural Youth Talk Through the Arts (YTTA) showcase – a regional project supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The one night event, scheduled for Saturday, February 09, 2013 at the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, will feature artistic minds depicting “Issues Affecting Youth” and “A Celebration of Youth.”
St. Kitts and Nevis’ Caribbean Youth Think Tank (CYTT) representative Dillon Webbe is organising the local production. He told SKNIS that the creative expression is not limited and can take the form of music, spoken word, drama, photography, fashion and more.
“At present, we have about 64 persons confirmed who have volunteered their talents for the YTTA,” Webbe revealed. “They span about 14 different groups and individuals, eight from St. Kitts and six from Nevis.”
Some of the more recognizable groups are registered LEAP, Poinciana Productions and Shekhina Dance Theatre. Popular personalities from Island Expressions have also signed up to participate. Most of the performers had their first centralised group rehearsal last Saturday which allowed organizers the opportunity to better streamline the flow of the actual show.
“The rehearsal went very beautifully,” Mr. Webbe stressed. “The participants that performed their pieces delivered themselves and their message well on stage. This is what the YTTA is all about: Youth Talking through the medium of the Arts.”
As for the February 09 show, the CYTT representative promised that “the people of St. Kitts and Nevis will witness a delicate mix of the best art groups in the twin-island Federation, as well as everyday individuals who have a message they'd like to share.
“You can expect to be entertained by the best drama, dance, poetry and songs, and leave with a clear grasp of the state of the nation, as perceived through the eyes of our youth,” Webbe concluded.
Free tickets for the YTTA showcase are available at the Department of Youth Empowerment, St. Kitts and the Division of Youth Services, Nevis. The show starts at 7 p.m.
The YTTA has been held previously in Barbados and St. Lucia. After St. Kitts and Nevis stages the project, Dominica will conclude the initial round of implementation.
