BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - TWO men are awaiting their fate at the Basseterre High Court after being found guilty of attempting to murder Derrick Sawyer of St. Paul’s Village by suffocation.
The two men, Akeem ‘Sheddy’ Parris and Javonne ‘Junie’ Hendrickson, were found guilty of the offence last Tuesday (Jan. 21) following the testimony of three witnesses.
SKNVibes learnt that on October 13, 2011, the two men entered Sawyer’s home, beat him and attempted to suffocate him by placing a pillow over his nostrils.
This media house also learnt that Sawyer, who is in his 70s, stated that while he was being suffocated and felt his life slipping away, he gave it one more shot in trying to escape and was able to push the men off of him and they subsequently left his house.
The other two witnesses were his wife Denise Berridge and police officer Maurice Sargeant.
The two men will be sentenced later in the Assizes.
Patrick Hodge pleaded guilty to an indecent assault charge on Thursday (Jan. 17). The Court was told that he committed the crime on a certain female in Verchilds on July, 16, 2011.
And Quincy Davis was found guilty last Thursday (Jan. 24) of unlawful carnal knowledge of an 11-year-old girl. The crime was committed sometime between July 1 and 31, 2011.
Dennis Jeffers also appeared at the High Court, but on charges of building breaking and breaking with intent. The incident occurred at the Carib Breweries building on April 23, 2012.
He was found guilty by a 12-member jury on Jan. 16, after the Court heard the testimonies of five witnesses.
In the case of Kevin Pierre who was charged with wounding with intent and unlawful wounding, the judge, His Lordship Justice Errol Thomas, after speaking in chambers with the prosecution on Monday (Jan. 21), declared that the case was abandoned and he was free to go.
A rape case is currently heard and the kidnapping case of Gilda and Larry Vaughan is expected to begin tomorrow (Jan. 29).
The accused in the kidnapping case are Jahmana Walters, Ali Percival, Clayton Laws and Jermaine Riley, who are all on remand at Her Majesty’s Prison.
