BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – DESPITE having heard about the loss of his brother, who was shot by police, local sprint icon Kim Collins put aside his anger to finish second in both the 60 and 200 metres races at the International Match indoor meet in Scotland on Saturday, January 26.
Collins showed extraordinary determination and will power to compete at Glasgow, where the former 100 metres world champion from St. Kitts and Nevis was 0.07 seconds behind winner Dwain Chambers (6.58) in the 60 metres and trailed Kind Butler (21.26) of the USA in the 200-metre event, finishing in a time of 21.37 seconds.
Speaking after the meet, Collins said, "I signed up (for the meet) before the incident - the only thing I can do for him is make sure he gets a proper funeral and those police officers are brought to justice."
"It was clearly excessive force, it should never have happened," Collins added.
Collins’ appearance in Scotland was in doubt following the death of his elder brother, Winston Callustus Browne, who was shot dead by police on Tuesday (Jan. 22) following a domestic incident.
