Local MMA fighter to compete in Curaçao next month

By: Loshaun Dixon, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Federation’s first ever Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) professional fighter and Heavyweight title holder of the Caribbean Kickboxing Grappling Shou Federation’s Caribbean (CKGSFC), Tija Stanley, is expected to compete in Curacao next month.

The event is dubbed ‘Dominance Carnival of Blood’ and he is slated to fight Mohamed Hussein of Curaçao, who is considered to be the best MMA fighter on that island.

Speaking with SKNVibes, Stanley said preparations are well underway.

“Right now I am training hard, working out twice a day for five days a week, just hitting the gym doing my martial arts. The body is feeling well and nothing is wrong with me right now.”

Stanley added that last time he fought he had represented Enervit Fighters in Venezuela, but declared that this time he would not get the same assistance he received from that organisation.

“I always represent myself. Right now I am representing team Grizzly going down to fight. I always have St. Kitts on my back, but I cannot represent St. Kitts because it is just not done that way. But I have to represent an organisation and whenever I travel I always keep the name of St. Kitts and Nevis with me,” Stanley said.

The CKGSFC Heavyweight title holder also expressed the confidence that he would be victorious at the event.

“I expect two or three rounds of punching and kicking. His (Mohamed Hussein) last fight was a knockout; he hit the guy with one punch. So I have to stay away from his hands and beat him up a lot.”

He added: “I have been getting a lot of feedback from different organisations, even in Canada, and the fight may lead for me getting another fight in Tortola for another championship.”

Stanley also made mention of a promo for television that is in the making leading up to the event with Sknfashion.

In November 2012, the Kittitian fighter defeated Heverick Martinez of Venezuela in the 46th second of the first round. He broke Martinez’ nose and ended the fight with a rare Naked Choke.
