BRADES Montserrat, January 29th, 2013 -- As of January 01st 2013 - A new regional public health agency which seeks to advance the Caribbean Wellness Revolution became full operational.
The Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) is an amalgamation of five Regional Health Institutions, namely:
• The Caribbean Health Research Council;
• The Caribbean Epidemiology Centre
• The Caribbean Environmental Health Institute
• The Caribbean Food and Nutrition Institute
• The Caribbean Regional Drug Testing Laboratory.
The establishment of CARPHA was approved by the Caribbean Heads of Government back in March 2010 with the mission to provide strategic direction, in analyzing, defining and responding to public health priorities of CARICOM, in order to prevent disease, promote health and to respond to public health emergencies.
According to Dr Greene - CARICOM Assistant Secretary General – “CARPHA is an investment in the health of the people of the Caribbean.”
