Silent protesters stand firm

By: Loshaun Dixon, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WHILE Members of the National Assembly resumed debate on the Senators (Increasing of number) Bill 2012 this morning (Jan. 29), four individuals silently protested outside Government Headquarters.

The protestors carried placards and their faces were painted white, which gave them the look of pantomimes.

The four individuals stood in noticeable positions around the building and remained silent throughout their demonstration.

Upon arrival on the scene, SKNVibes observed that there were over one dozen police officers, including members of the Delta Squad, surrounding Government Headquarters.

Vehicular traffic was denied access along Church Street, Central Street and Liverpool Row.

When asked for a comment, one of the protesters just shook his head in the symbolic gesture of no.

The protesters, however, were warned by police officers that they were allowed to carry out their demonstration, but would not be allowed to stand on Church Street directly in front of Government Headquarters.

The placards read: “You’ve been oppressed for too long time for change! Vote Labour OUT! The signs also showed a pointing finger.

Many passers-by stood and stared at the protestors in an effort to learn of their identity and to enquire who they were representing, but the latter proved a difficult task because none of the spoke.

The day went by without any major incident occurring within the vicinity of Government Headquarters. However, there were a few arguments amongst individuals for and against the Government.
