BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE have confirmed that the Jaro Electronics employee, Lindsay ‘Smokey’ Williams, was fatally stabbed by his girlfriend on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 27).
Reports stated that the lifeless body of Williams was discovered in one of the bedrooms of his Parray’s Village residence sometime after 3:00 p.m. on Sunday (Jan. 27).
He was pronounced dead at the scene by District Medical Officer Dr. Mervyn Laws.
In an interview today (Jan. 30) with SKNVibes, Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Lyndon David shared the police’s finding that “the incident surrounds domestic violence”.
No information is yet forthcoming on whether the woman was charged.
In an emergency press briefing on Tuesday (Jan. 22), following the shooting death by police of an alleged perpetrator of a domestic dispute situation, Commissioner of Police Clevin ‘CG’ Walwyn said “domestic violence is a very serious offence”.
“We treat it very serious here in the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force. Since I’ve been here we’ve created a Special Victims Unit. At the present time the Special Victims Unit is with the wife at the hospital finishing up the investigations”.
He appealed to everyone to “please do not get involved in domestic violence. If you’re in a situation where you believe the situation is not going to work, please either walk away from the relationship or get some counseling”.
Asked about conflict resolution in a domestic violent relationship, Inspector David said, “Whether male or female, before it escalates to a point where the person gets injured, he or she should find someone to confide in trying to resolve the disagreement”.
“Whenever you find yourself in a domestic situation that is escalating, seek someone to speak with,” he added.
The PRO stated that areas of disagreement between couples could be about money, children, whether one partner is not contributing to the household or about speculation of unfaithfulness in the relationship.
He informed that most disputes start with verbal arguments which could “intensify and lead to physical contact”.
David advised that individuals involved in domestic violent relationships should make a report to the police if he or she finds that measures to resolve the conflict are not working.
He pointed out that “chances are that the matter will be taken before the court”.
He however indicated that individuals who seek to get help either want the situation to end, the other person to leave the home or restart the relationship.
“Try to resolve disagreements in a peaceful way and all will be resolved in a peaceful and loving way;” he appealed.
SKNVibes was reliably informed that the man’s girlfriend is an employee of Jaro Electronics. Additionally, unconfirmed reports claim the man was stabbed to the upper portion of his body.
