BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER of St. Kitts and Nevis, Hon. Sam T. Condor has resigned from the Cabinet of the Federal Government with immediate effect.
In a press release from the Office of the Parliamentary Representative of St. Christopher Three, Condor is quoted as saying that he has tendered his resignation because of issues pertaining to good governance and constitutional integrity.
“At 8:35am today, by a letter dated 30th January 2013, my resignation from the Cabinet of the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis, was delivered to the Office of Prime Minister Dr. the Rt. Hon. Denzil Douglas.
“The recent developments pertaining to issues of Good Governance and Constitutional Integrity have brought me to the point where I feel constrained to tender my resignation as a Member of Cabinet, with immediate effect.”
The release also states that he vowed to remain committed to serving the people of his constituency and is praying that God would bless and guide the Federation.
“I remain committed to serve and to do the best that I can for the people of St. Christopher 3 and of the Nation in general, by the grace of God and by the will of the people.
“I pray that God would continue to bless and guide our Country, so that we would emerge from this unchartered path with a fresh vision for living as brethren; and working together in respectful harmony, for the good of all.”
Condor is the second Minister in the Labour Party Administration who no longer serves as a Cabinet Member.
The first was former Senior Minister and Chairman of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party, the Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris.
In a national address on Friday evening (Jan. 25) via simulcast, Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas announced that he had stripped Dr. Harris of his ministerial portfolios because of his open opposition to two recent government-sponsored Bills, his refusal to say how he would vote on the Budget and on the Motion of No Confidence filed by the Opposition, as well as his apparent involvement in activism that undermined the government.
At the time of posting this article, efforts to contact Minister Condor were futile.
