BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A Dieppe Bay man is scheduled to appear before the court shortly for stealing the registration sticker that was affixed and assigned to a particular government-owned vehicle and mounting it on his public transportation vehicle.
Earlier this week, SKNVibes caught wind of the incident and made enquiries with the Traffic Department which confirmed that the incident did take place.
The accused is Vernon Henderson and, according to circumstances of the incident as were relayed to this publication, he removed the licence sticker from a government vehicle and placed it on the front windscreen of his motor omnibus HA69, securing it with tape.
He was suspected of committing a traffic violation when he approached the Traffic Department to request a reissuance of the registration for the government vehicle.
Officers of the Traffic Department apparently did not buy into Henderson’s reason for needing a new sticker and conducted their own investigations. It was during those investigations that the sticker - which was issued to the government vehicle - was found affixed to HA69.
Henderson was taken into police custody and subsequently bailed. He was charged with driving HA69 when it had not been licenced and fraudulent use of a licence sticker.
The Department has warned that persons who engage in such activities would be dealt with to the full extent of the law.
“We at the Traffic Department are appealing to owners of motor vehicles that it is an offence for persons to transfer a licence sticker from one vehicle to another. And persons who are caught engaging in this practice will be dealt with.”
