BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - TWO Members of Parliament have joined forces in an application for injunction to block the performance of the recently-passed Increase of Senators Bill and newly-appointed Attorney-General Jason Hamilton from carrying out the functions of a Senator in the Federal House of Assembly.

The two Parliamentarians are former Deputy Prime Minister the Hon. Sam T. Condor and Leader of the People’s Action Movement Hon. Shawn K. Richards.

Opposition Senator in the Federal Parliament and Barrister-at-Law the Hon. Vincent Byron told this publication that the application for the injunction was filed earlier this afternoon (Feb. 1) at the Basseterre High Court, with both men asking for an order to be granted debarring AG Hamilton from performing or executing responsibilities as a Senator of the Parliament until the substantive matters have been dealt with.

The injunction is also being sought to prevent the execution of any aspect of the Senators (Increasing of Number) 2012 Bill, which was passed in the Federal Parliament on January 29, 2013.

Both claimants – SKNVibes understands - swore affidavits this afternoon in support of the application.

And the application names the Governor-General, Sir Edmund Lawrence, as the first defendant, Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas as the second defendant, Speaker of the House the Hon. Curtis Martin as the third, AG Hamilton as the fourth and the fifth is the Office of the Attorney-General of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Condor and Richards were amongst other MPs who – during the January 29 sitting of Parliament – strongly opposed the passage of the Bill and Hamilton’s appointment to the Parliament as a Senator.

Byron indicated that the claimants are hoping that the injunction application would be heard as soon as possible.
