K-Jah says promoting is a gamble promote
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – Despite the low turnout at FMM’s Riddim Up party held Friday night (Feb. 1) at 17 Degrees, patrons obviously had an exciting time.
The Nu Vybes Band International (De Sugar Band) brought the curtains down with a performance that clocked over two hours, treating patrons to tunes such as ‘Oxygen’ and ‘One Blood’.
The event which kicked off around 10 p.m. ended shortly before 6 a.m. on Saturday.
DJ Shaggy, the first act of the night, warmed up patrons with a diverse blend of genres which had them grooving. After him came DJ Sweet Sister Sensia and the excitement level was kicked up a notch as females in attendance got into a frenzy, grooving to the many female empowerment tunes that this particular DJ is accustomed to blaze in her music selections.
Unstoppable Chalice was next with its lively selector ‘Bouskey’, followed by Xtortion Sound.
Next was the Grand Masters Band, which performed for a little over one hour.
Organiser and promoter of the event, Kemarri ‘K-Jah’ Armstrong told SKNVibes about his mixed reviews on the event.
He said despite the small crowd, he realised that people were actually enjoying themselves, and that patrons were dancing and supporting the bars.
Armstrong however felt that the event was not well-supported.
“I didn't like the way the event was treated by a few businesses’; some agreed to come onboard, then pulled out at the last moment. Furthermore, I thought we could have gotten more support from fans and friends. When I analysed the crowd, I was surprised not to see more people whom I consider friends and people who said they were going to come. So, it was an eye-opening experience for me, and I have learnt many lessons from this one event.”
He went on to say: “Promoting is a gamble…its risky business, that's why the returns are so high. And it’s more difficult than it appears. You have to be prepared to win or lose. That's how it is. But all in all, it was a major accomplishment. I brought everything together and made it happen with the support of my team.”
He extended thanks to all the sponsors and entertainment acts who helped to make the event possible.
“There were some noteworthy performances by Unstoppable, who rocked the crowd, leaving them wanting more and Nu Vybes, who left us all breathless needing ‘oxygen’,” Armstrong said.
