BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – PARLIAMENTARY REPRESENTATIVE for Constituency Number Four, the Hon. Glen Phillip said he is aware of over 140 names wrongly added to the Voters’ List of that area and warned his political rival to have them removed immediately.
Phillips advice was given on January 29 during his contribution to the debate on the Senators (Increasing of Number) 2012 Bill in the Federal Parliament.
“I am sending a warning that 143 persons that you have on the List, that you think I don’t know about, take them off now! Use this opportunity, because you complained, you took me to court, say I put people from all over the place, but yet you have 143 people on the List. Take them off now! I know them! Take them off now! I know who they are!”
In January 2010, Phillip contested and won the Constituency Number Four Seat, defeating the People’s Action Movement candidate Lindsay Grant by 29 votes.
A court battle ensued where Grant challenged Phillip’s election, charging that his ascension to office was as a result of corruption and cheating.
Phillip was absolved of any alleged wrongdoing.
In an exclusive interview with this publication, Phillip explained that the 143 names were discovered during “scrutiny of the List”. He said those names belong to persons who reside in the Bird Rock, Sandy Point and other areas.
“We have found - and I know for a fact - that names have been registered in the constituency of persons who do not live in the constituency.”
According to Minister Phillip, it is hypocritical for his political opponent to take him to court for alleged corruption and cheating and now participate (allegedly) in the same activities.
“I was just speaking on the hypocrisy of what has been transpiring over there since 2010. There has been a systematic registering of persons who do not live in that Constituency…”
Should the names not be removed, Phillip indicated that challenges would be mounted.
Phillip challenged his rival to a “fair and square” battle at the polls.
