Basseterre, St. Kitts (May 18, 2005): The life of calypsonian Shaka Bum was celebrated at Maynards Park on Tuesday.
Hundreds of colleagues, calypso fans, community residents and curious onlookers joined with the friends and family of Errol Powell to bid farewell to the calypsonian who captured the imagination and hopes of countless persons.
Powell, better known as Shaka Bum, died at his home at Canada Estate on Sunday, May 8. He had a history of seizures.
Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Sam Condor as well as Minister of Agriculture and Parliamentary Representative Hon. Cedric Liburd were among government officials who attended the funeral at Maynards Park in Cayon. Ironically, that same venue hosted the Green Valley calypso competition three days ago, a competition which Shaka Bum a former Green Valley calypso monarch was to contest.

Director of Culture Creighton Pencheon in a press release said Powell will be remembered for his conscious lyrics, sweet melodies and the passion with which he performed his songs.
The funeral service of the late Errol Shaka Bum Powell was officiated by Reverend Algernon Lewis and Jasmin Shelford. The body was interned at the Anglican Churchyard in Cayon. Powell celebrated his 48th birthday on February 14, 2005.
