BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE West Basseterre Executive Branch of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) is distancing itself from a press release disseminated under its name yesterday (Feb. 5), explaining that it is “bogus” and does not represent the majority view of that body.
The first release called for the resignation of Sam T. Condor – the Parliamentary Representative for that area – on grounds of undermining the government, abandonment of his constituency and the SKNLP and expressing views without general consultation with the majority of constituency members.
Today, (Feb. 6), another release was issued which named the first a misrepresentation of the view of the majority of the West Basseterre Branch Executive. It also reaffirmed the Executive’s support for Condor.
“With the exception of the former Chairman, we are certain that every member of our 12-person Executive stands firmly behind Mr. Condor; and none of us was, is, or will be part of that illegal group. Further, the leader of the Labour Party, the Hon Dr. Denzil Douglas, is fully aware of the persons who are the membership of our Executive. Indeed, our most recent meeting with the Leader was held on January 7th 2013, at which said meeting we reaffirmed our total support of and solidarity with the Hon. Sam Condor.”
It added that “every step of the way Mr. Condor has been in full consultation with us, with his constituents with the Party Executive and with the country in general”.
The Branch Executive further expressed that if the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, had a hand in the issuance of the first release, he is guilty of failing to abide by the rules of the SKNLP’s Constitution.
“We are of the opinion that if the Leader, Dr. Douglas, is aware of that illegal group, far worse, if it has his endorsement and support, then he would be involved in the breach of the Party’s constitution and of the rules. In the process, he would be guilty of dividing, undermining and destabilizing the Labour Party. The real Labour Party does not have a history of seeking to silence and dismiss utterances and acts of conscience and commitment to fundamental principles of both Party and Movement.”
Condor – in speaking with SKNVibes – explained that there is but one West Basseterre Executive Branch of the St. Kits-Nevis Labour Party and it did not issue the first release,.
He described it as bogus.
Condor said the dissemination of that (first) communiqué constitutes “undermining the authority of the elected representative…it is sad that it has come to those things”.
