Basseterre, St. Kitts (May 18th, 2005): Kerisha Browne, a student of the Tyrell Williams Primary School has emerged victorious in the Florida Caribbean Cruise Associations poster competition with third place among students from 18 territories.
On Wednesday Kerisha was presented a cheque in the amount of US$1000.00 for her outstanding artwork and the message behind it. Her school was also given a cheque for US $500.00.
Lloyd Lazar, Permanent Secretary of Tourism made the presentation on behalf of Min. Hon. Richard Skerritt.
Mr. Lazar explained that Kerisha had placed among hundreds of participants and urged students to use her success as a role model in their future endeavours.
Kerisha described her artwork as two men catching crabs, one of whom caught little fishes and did not return them to the water while his colleaque threw the tiny fishes back into the sea for their survival.
Mr. Lazar explained to the students that Kerishas drawing showed that she is concerned about preserving the environment. He added that even young people can share their views in relation to sustainable development.
Principal Marilyn Maynard accepted the cheque on behalf of the Tyrell Williams Primary School.
