ROADTOWN Tortola BVI, February 5th, 2013  – Following intensive cleaning of the Enid Scatliffe Pre-Primary School, the institution is scheduled to reopen on Thursday with a clean, sanitary environment for students and faculty to use.

The institution was closed today following concerns raised by the principal, faculty and the Parent and Teachers Association due to the discovery of unwanted pests in the roof.

The institution was cleaned over the weekend and is presently undergoing a second round of cleaning, sanitization and deodorization using professional strength cleaning agents used on hospitals. Areas cleaned include the roof, roof tiles, wall surfaces, books, tables, chairs and other educational material.

Minister for Education and Culture Honourable Myron V. Walwyn in speaking with the Department of Information and Public Relations said, “School maintenance is of a very high priority and we at the Ministry continue to work to do our best to create a comfortable environment for our educators and students.”

The Minister expressed his thanks to Principal Valerie Welsh and her staff at the Enid Scatliffe Pre-Primary School for the work they have done to safeguard and ensure the students and their own well-being.

The Education Minister also thanked the parents and the Parent Teachers Association for raising their concerns and assures all that as Minister, he is obligated to listen to their cries and will move swiftly to rectify any situation.
The Ministry and Department of Education will continue to dialogue with the Environmental Health Department to assess the situation as they work to provide a safe, clean learning environment.
