    Basseterre, St. Kitts (March 19, 2005): The second set in a series of town hall meetings organized to sensitize sugar workers and other interested persons about the way forward upon the exit from sugar took place on Wednesday night.
    The structure of the meetings is as follows: A panel of representatives from pertinent ministries and organisations make presentations. The presentations include retraining and re-orientation of workers by a social development official; Workers benefits by a Labour department official; as well as Land Management from an SSMC representative.
     
    Following that, the parliamentary representative for the  relevant area gives an overview on the history of the sugar industry and the decision for closure.
     
    Two town hall meetings were held at Sandy Point and Tabernacle on Wednesday. Those meetings were addressed by Hon Cedric Liburd Minister of Housing and Agriculture, Fisheries and Consumer Affairs and Hon Dr. Timothy Harris Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, Industry and Commerce.
     
    A spokesperson from the Ministry of Agriculture told SKNIS that the meetings are well attended and characterised by live discussions and interactive question and answer sessions.
     
    The meetings continue tonight at the Dieppe Bay Primary School to cater to persons from Dieppe Bay and Parsons.
     
    On Wednesday 25th May meetings will be held at the Trinity Community Centre and the Newton Ground Primary School followed by sessions at the St. Pauls Primary and the Dr William Connor Primary Schools on Thursday 26th May.
