    POLICE/COURT ROUND UP

    ~~Adz:Right~~ BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – OVER the past weekend, a number of persons believed to be involved in various criminal activities were arrested and charged and are expected to appear before a court of law shortly.

     

    Royden Gumbs and Ivan Williams of Godwin Ghaut and Halfway Tree respectively, were arrested and charged with an October 11, 2008 offence of “possession of cannabis.
     
    St. Pauls Villager Ivan Connor was on October 12, 2008 arrested and charged with the offences of “possession of cannabis” and “carrying abroad an offensive weapon.”

     

    “Aggravated assault” was the offence which Timothy Hercules of Stoney Grove, Nevis was charged. The offence was committed on October 12, 2008.

     

    Thorne Flemming, a resident of Green Tree Housing Project, was arrested and charged with “battery on police” and “battery”.

     

    “Wounding” is the offence preferred against Crispin Carey of Tabernacle Village. The offence is said to have been committed on October 12, 2008 and he was arrested two days after.

     

    St. Pauls Villager Kenya Dickenson was arrested and charged with an October 7, 2008 offence of “larceny”. His arrest took place on October 12, 2008.

     

    On October 10, 2008, Gingerland, Nevis resident Rohan Hutton was arrested and charged with “driving without insurance”.

     

    COURT CONVICTIONS

     

    Four persons, who recently appeared before the District “B” Magistrate Court, were convicted and fined or cautioned as follows.

     

    Clinton Tobias of Sandy Point, who was charged with April 16, 2008 offences of “making use of threatening language” and “making use of indecent language”, was convicted on both counts and was “severely warned”, a police press release informs.

     

    Roselyn ‘Rita’ Richardson of Sandy Point was convicted of “making use of indecent language” and “harassment” and was severely warned.

     

    Verchilds Villager Jack Spencer was convicted of “careless driving” and fined $600 which is to be paid within three months or in default, he would have to serve one month imprisonment.

     

    A $600 fine was handed down to Kevin Cannonier of Phillips Village after he was convicted of “obstruction”. He was also “severely cautioned” after being convicted for “refusing to give name”.

     

    OPERATIONS

     

    Between Friday, October 10 and Sunday, October 12, the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, during routine operations, stopped and search some 80 individuals, and although none of them was found to be in contravention of the law, quantities of marijuana were found and confiscated.

     

    According to a police press release, “Police also conducted operations on Friday 10th October 2008 in the Mc Knight, Market Street, Monkey Hill, Stapleton Village, Mansion Village, Lower Cayon and Conaree areas and during the operations a total of 44 individuals were stopped and searched for illegal drugs, arms and ammunitions and several quantities of cannabis were found at different locations, but no one was held accountable for the find. The drugs were also taken into custody.”

     

    Concerning operations conducted on Sunday, “Police conducted routine stop and search patrols and a total of 30 persons were stopped and searched for illegal drugs, arms and ammunitions and a quantity of cannabis was found in the surrounding area during the execution of a search but no one was held accountable for the find. The drugs were taken into custody.”
