Deadly motorcycle test run

The body of Lesford ’Wifey’ Ryan being removed from the scene of the accident by undertakers from Jenkins Funeral Home

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - TRAGEDY struck the Sandy Point community yesterday (Feb. 9) after a young man accidently crashed his motorcycle into a lamp post along the road in Long Path, Fig Tree during a test run that took a deadly turn.

     

    Dead is 30-year-old Lesford 'Wifey' Ryan who is said to originally hail from the island of Montserrat but had been residing on St. Kitts at Bourkes Project in Sandy Point for a number of years.

     

    The accident took place in the vicinity of the overhead bridge sometime after noon.

     

    The scene was a catastrophic one. Ryan's body was dismembered following the impact which also left the motorcycle a mangled wreck.

     

    Information reaching SKNVibes indicates that the deceased had just completed some final work on the “new motorbike” (P4331) and had been taking it for a test run when the accident took place.

     

    Ryan was a mechanic and was known for repairing and maintaining cars and motorcycles.

     

    A 12-year-old boy from Fig Tree, who claimed to have witnessed the accident, said he was among a group of children when they saw Ryan riding the motorcycle along Long Path. He said shortly after they heard a loud crashing sound and they suspected that he had “hit something”, so they ran to the scene and found various parts of his body scattered on the road.

     

    Ryan was pronounced dead by District Medical Officer Dr. Norgen Wilson who is resident of Sandy Point.

     

    Undertakers from Jenkins Funeral Home took the man's body away.

     

    According to a police press release, "Investigation revealed that Mr. Ryan was riding his motorbike from Fig Tree going to the Island main Road or from (south to north) and while riding he lost control of the bike, which caused him to run into a drain on the western side of the road and then he collided to an electrical pole on the same side of the road, causing it to be broken.

     

    This is the first recorded road fatality for 2013.
