BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, OCTOBER 18TH 2008 (CUOPM) — St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas will on Saturday tour areas affected by Hurricane Omar.

Dr. Douglas will travel to the sister isle accompanied by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Mrs. Astona Browne; National Disaster Coordinator, Mr. Carl Herbert and Press Secretary to the Prime Minister, Mr. Erasmus Williams.

Prime Minister Douglas is expected to be joined on the tour by the Premier of Nevis, Hon. Joseph Parry and other officials of the Nevis Island Administration.

He is expected to look at the damage to the homes in Low Street in Charlestown, the Four Seasons Hotel and the western coast line along Gallows Bay.

Prime Minister Douglas and Premier have been in consultation with each other prior to and after the hurricane which affected both islands of the Federation.

Hurricane Omar passed northwest of St. Kitts and Nevis as a category three hurricane with wind speed in excess of 120 miles an hour in the early hours of Thursday, impacting the western coast line with dangerous sea swells, severe storm surge, larger battering waves and torrential rains.   ~~Adz:Right~~

The Robert Bradshaw International Airport on St. Kitts and the Vance Amory International Airport on Nevis have reopened for business and both islands have returned to a state of normalcy as cleaning up continues in several areas.
