13 of 40 plead guilty at Traffic Court

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SOME 40 cases were called for trial dates to be set during last Thursday’s (Feb. 7) Traffic Court sitting and, as a result, 13 individuals pleaded guilty to the offences for which they were charged.

     

    Judgment was swift with presiding magistrate Her Worship Simone Bullen-Thompson issuing fines which the guilty parties have to pay before specific periods of time elapse.

     

    Enrique Skelton of St. St. Johnson Avenue – for driving without due care and attention – was filed $500 to be paid within two months or serve one week at Her Majesty’s Prison.

     

    The offence was committed on September 12, 2012.

     

    Fiennes Avenue resident Peter ‘MacGyver’ Dickenson pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence of alcohol and was ordered by the Court to pay a $1 000 fine within three months or serve three months’ imprisonment. As further punishment, he was disqualified from driving for three months.

     

    Dickenson was also charged with failing to produce his driver’s licence for inspection and was cautioned. Both offences were committed on September 16, 2013.

     

    Romeo Richardson of Saddlers Village was fined $250 in two weeks or serve 14 days imprisonment for committing an August 31, 2012 offence of driving off the bus route.

     

    Sprott Street resident Calvin Jenkins has two weeks to pay a $250 fine imposed on him by the Court for failing to wear his seatbelt while in the operation of a vehicle. The offence was committed on September 29, 2012.

     

    For a July 28, 2012 offence of driving without due care and attention, New Road resident Joseph Huggins was fined $600 to be paid within two months.

     

    Joya Tyson of Upper Market Street has a $450 fine to pay within two months or face possible custodial sentencing. She pleaded guilty to one count of driving without due care and attention, committed on January 30, 2012.

     

    For driving without due care and attention, Quinne Nisbett of Stapleton Village was fined $500 to be paid within two months of conviction date. The offence was committed on July 26, 2012.

     

    Vere Merritt of Upper Monkey Hill – for driving without insurance on November 6, 2012- was filed $750. He has two months in which to pay the sum, and failure to do so would result in him serving two months behind bars.

     

    Within one month, Vernon Henderson of Dieppe Bay has to pay a $250-fine. It was imposed by the Court as punishment for committing a December 1, 2012 offence of driving an unlicenced vehicle.

     

    Zamir Taylor of New Road was fined $250 for operating a vehicle when its windows and or windscreen vehicle too heavily tinted.

     

    For driving when not wearing a seatbelt, Leroy Davis of Middle Island was fined $250 to be paid within one month.

     

    Lawson Burke of Cayon Village pleaded guilty to a July 28, 2012 offence of driving without due care and attention and driving while under the influence of alcohol. He was cautioned on the former offence but fined $1 200 on the latter, which is to be paid within four months.

     

    He was also disqualified from driving for four months.

     

    Trevor Seaton has one month to pay a $250 fine or serve 14 days in prison. The fine was imposed after he pleaded guilty of using a cell phone while operating a vehicle. The offence was committed on August 21, 2012.
