BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TWO men are currently on trial for robbery, receiving, indecent assault and rape; offences they allegedly committed on April 26, 2011.

The case began yesterday (Feb. 11) and the prosecution team, led by Acting Director of Public Prosecutions Rhonda Nisbett-Browne, is expected to call some 14 witnesses.

In a previous report on SKNVibes, sometime after 9:00 p.m. on Apr. 26, while an individual was conversing with a friend on the verandah of their home, two masked gunmen accosted them and demanded money.

It was reported that the men had rummaged through some drawers in the bedroom in search of money and other valuables, but were unsuccessful and allegedly removed an undisclosed amount of cash from the handbag of a friend who was visiting the owner of the house.

They were also said to have robbed the homeowner of some pieces of jewellery they were wearing as well as a cellular phone.

The homeowner was also relieved of a cellular phone and the men made their escaped with a vehicle, either belonging to the homeowner or the visiting friend.

Police later found the vehicle abandoned on the West Basseterre By-Pass Road in Buckley’s.

Less than 12 hours after the incident, police arrested and charged one of the men for possession of a firearm and a quantity of ammunition.
